The story of West Lake Lotus Tea

One craft, one place, one unmistakable fragrance.

"Some scents belong to a place. For West Lake, it is the lotus. And for the tea makers here, to hold that fragrance in a cup of tea is to hold a piece of Hanoi's soul."

Hơn 20 năm một nghề

For more than twenty years, our family has lived by the rhythm of the lotus season: the dawn trips to the ponds, the days when the whole house is filled with the scent of lotus, and the quiet joy when a batch of tea has "taken enough of the flower." Through all those years, one thing has never changed — we make our tea entirely by hand, in season, and never trade true fragrance for volume.

West Lake Bách Diệp Lotus

Not every lotus can scent tea. We choose Bách Diệp — the hundred-petal lotus that made West Lake tea famous: small blooms, thick petals, a fragrance both deep and clean. In earlier days, the lotus came straight from the ponds of West Lake. But over time, urbanisation shrank and erased many of those ponds, and West Lake lotus grew scarce. To keep the same variety and the same quality of tea, we turned to the traditional lotus ponds in regions that still preserve the craft of growing Bách Diệp, choosing blooms picked at first light — petals still closed, dew still resting, when the scent is at its purest.

"West Lake Lotus Tea" is thus a brand and a heritage we safeguard; and true whole-bloom lotus tea is always rare, and always seasonal.

The Craft of Whole-Bloom Scenting

What defines whole-bloom lotus tea is that the tea is scented inside the fresh flower itself. The maker gently places tea within the bloom, ties it closed, and lets it draw fragrance from the flower. But a fresh lotus's scent is fragile — it fades quickly.

So we capture that moment in two ways: freezing, which keeps each tea-filled bloom fresh, and freeze-drying, which preserves the full fragrance in a light, long-lasting form. Both serve one purpose: to keep the true scent of the lotus, never to replace it with additives.

Our Philosophy

We believe good tea comes not from volume but from care at every step. So we work with the seasons, keep to the handmade way, and never trade flavour for output.

West Lake Lotus Tea is more than a product — it is how we preserve and share a piece of Vietnamese tea culture, even with friends far away.
